Indapur is name after king Indradev, Indradev is king of GOD. It has been said that Indapur was setup by the king himself. Indapur has historical as well as mythological significance. As per the information Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's grandfather Virshri Malojiraje Bhosale was a great devotee of Indreshwar. He had made a special financial provision at Indreshwar temple to lit for oil lamp at that time. Later in the british rule in 1885, the British government made provision of three rupees to lit the oil lamp continuously in this temple as cited archeology department.

Later in the year 1952 Shri Indreshwar Devsthan trust was established by the villagers and Mr. Shankar Laxman Washimbekar was appointed as first president of this trust. In the resent past years lot of villagers has been migrated to different city and places for survival because of this many were unknown about the presence of Shri Indreshwar temple in there homeland now recently the current President Mr. Rajendra Dattatray Washimbekar has declared this ancient temple as first worship place of Indapur city.
